XR Stories Funding Call

The Screen Industries Growth Network (SIGN) is a unique, business-facing initiative supporting the TV, film and games industries in Yorkshire and the Humber. SIGN aims to make this region the UK’s centre for digital creativity, and a model of diverse and inclusive activity. In order to do this, SIGN connects companies, support agencies and universities through a programme of training, business development, research and evaluation.

Our commitment to diversity and inclusion feeds into and underpins all that SIGN does. We recognise the strength and creativity that a diverse and inclusive workforce brings, and aim to increase access to opportunities across the screen industries.

We welcome applications from businesses and organisations that share the same culture and values as SIGN and offer something different to the initiatives that SIGN is already undertaking.

All applications to the partnership working fund will need to demonstrate that they are seeking to support groups that are underrepresented in the screen industries and have a tangible link to the Yorkshire and Humber region.

If you have any questions about this opportunity before you submit your application please contact our team at

XR Stories is able to fund internship projects that seek to address the technical skills shortages in the creative industries.

These projects can derive from a variety of screen industry sectors including gaming, creative digital agencies and film and tv production companies and support businesses that are in the Yorkshire and Humber region.

They are designed to support current students and recent graduates from universities in the region and XR Stories is working with other HEI partners to support the delivery of this programme.

Further information for this call can be found in the guidance document on the webpages

If you are unsure if your project or business is within scope, please get in touch with Wendy Sissons at prior to submitting your application

SIGN is a regional business facing initiative funded by Research England, the University of York and its partners

As part of our work on equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) we are committed to enabling wider participation through working with industry and the public to build a diverse and inclusive workforce, diverse content and encourage diverse audiences

SIGN is offering SMEs based in the Yorkshire and Humber region who work in any of the screen sector industries (film, tv, gaming and other digital media) the opportunity to host a funded placement, internship or insight (work shadowing) this year.

We are looking specifically and particularly to support the offering of these work experience opportunities to any individuals from diverse backgrounds who have historically and are presently excluded from getting into and on in the screen industries.

These include people from ethnically underrepresented backgrounds, those who are disabled, women, those joining or returning to the sector who are aged over 35, those who identify as LGBTQ+ and those from lower socio economic backgrounds.

Applications are open to SMEs* in the region who are able to offer and support a placement, insight or internship in their business from July 2022 onwards.

Full guidelines and guidance is available via our website
